Dumbass of the Day - My mom

My dad has been visiting this week from Los Angeles and so we went out to mom's to visit and hang out with them this past weekend. While I was there, I got a good "Dumbass of the Day" comment from, of course, one of my family members. So for Saturday, October 24 the "Dumbass of the Day" has got to go to my mom.

Mom and I were watching movies together Saturday night since Will and Dad had gone to sleep. We had already watched one and I had purchased a couple at the store earlier on the sale rack. Will and I liked the movie "Fool's Gold" because as you all know, we love to free dive (and Mathew McConaughey is one of my favorites, as is Kate Hudson), so that was one of the ones I had purchased. However, mom had not seen it so I suggested that we watch.

When the names were rolling at the beginning of the movie, I noticed one of them was Malcolm Jamal-Warner. I stated to my mom "Hey, I think that was one of the guys that played on the Cosby Show". Her reply - "Yea, it was. He was the black kid." Well no shit. My reply - "Mom, they were all black kids!". DUH! We laughed so hard I almost fell off the couch! I told her she was making her "dumbass of the day".

Well, I'm not sure how much of my gene pool is redneck or hillbilly, but at this point, I am guessing there was some inbreeding going on somewhere. At least they are good for some comedic moments!

LOVE YOU GUYS!

Playing dress up for Monday Night Football

If you know the history of football in our house, I hate it but put up with it. Will loves it and watches it every chance he gets and the kids and animals put up with it because...well, because they have too. Will is a HUGE Charger fan. Gotta watch all those games. He says that I am a Charger fan, Allie is a Charger fan, oh and let's not forget that the dogs are Charger fans! Will also has two Charger jerseys that he wears every time a game is on to show his support. One for him and one for....whomever is around at the time.

Allie is usually the support system for this little adventure. I think Allie has turned on me - she just told us the other night that she needed a jersey her own size, and proceeded to point out that his jersey was a dress on her and the armpits on his basically went down to her waist. Anyway, I think she took it off finally and at some point when Will noticed, he made sure it got back on a warm body. Not mine, not Allie's but Kai's! He looked so cute in it too. Too bad we could not have cut a hole in it for his tail. It was a little long and he kept stepping on the backend, but he played along like the good sport that he is. Guess we might need to buy a couple of jerseys for Christmas - one for Al and one for Kai. Anyone make doggie clothes?

Little Boys who grow up to be Little Boys

Saturdays "Dumbass of the Day" has got to go to my husband Will. I just so happened to be doing some crafting out back and he decided to keep me company for a while. I was really into what I was doing and I wasn't really paying much attention to him. I was not aware of what he was doing but knew he was keeping himself busy, walking around the backyard, playing with the dog, looking in on the chickens. All of a sudden he broke the silence and said "Look honey, look what I made - Petroglyphs!" As I looked Will was proudly displaying a water design on our back cinderblock wall. As he proceeded to tell me that he saw a 'giraffe, a turtle etc...' I wondered how he had made it since the hose was not on - but then it dawned on me - he had spray peed all over the place! Anyone who knows Will knows that one of his favorite things to do is pee in the backyard out in nature. He says he's 'watering the trees' which is probably a good thing since we don't water back there. But this was the first time he had ever decided to display his 'artwork' for anyone to see. It made me laugh so hard at the time, that of course, I had to take a few photos of Picasso himself. Men, I swear. Can't live with them, can't live without them and they certainly, most definitely never, ever grow up!

Dumbass Comment of the Day

Sorry I have not written lately :( Truth be told - I miss you old mighty blog! I want to write, explore, post! But alas, some things in life just can't wait and this blog can. Like work. And Homework. And household duties. And let's not forget husbands, children, animals, phone calls, emails and all the blah, blah stuff that we have to deal with on a daily basis.

Today is Friday. It's almost time to skip out and have a beer, and boy am I glad! I'm just glad today was better than Wednesday. I got up to dog diarea all over my bedroom and then proceeded to go to work and lock myself out of my own office. I just hate those days! Those are the days I just want to crawl into a hole and never come out.

But, on the brighter side of things, just a few minutes ago my sister called and brightened up my day. She wanted to share with me a little story of "something not many people have seen before" and proceeded to tell me about all these really big caterpillars in her garden. I then told her those were tomato worms and she'd better read up on them and get them out before they destroyed her garden. What I got back was a "Hmmm...so maybe that's why my tomatoes aren't growing!". Anyway, what she then told me made my day. Her 'something that not many people have seen' was this - caterpillar poo. Yes, I said POO! She saw the damn thing poo! Not only did she see it poo, but she just had to describe it to me -color, shape and all - and then told me that they "looked like miniature grenades". What a nutcase huh? All I kept asking myself is, why was she looking at it close enough to see it poo? Mo, can you answer this???

She warned me that I would laugh. And I am. Still. Glad you got to experience this and share it with me Mo. However, with all due respect, I am posting this as the "Dumbass Comment of the Day".

I love you Mo. I love my family and all the crazy, stupid shit they do and say. You all make me laugh on a daily basis. If you can't live, laugh and love with your family and friends, what else is there in life? :)

Peace!

Allie's Room

Sorry - been extremely overwhelmed with life lately. I have my new job, school, the house, hubby, kid and I am trying to find a suitable hobby that takes me away from it all if not for just a few minutes. In the mess of it all, we decided Allie deserves to have a bedroom update. Allie is what Will call's his "wet dream" child. She is an overall awesome kid. She is a great student, a good helper (when asked) and very sweet, kind and thoughtful. She really deserves some attention showered on her more than we have been able to in the past and we decided this would be a little reward since her report card was really good.

Since Allie's room is what use to be part of the carport, she has a really long room and no closet. Instead of a closet, she has a closet system that was built onto the wall by the previous renters for their daughter. It is a mess of wire shelving that really needs to be hidden, so we were going to put a little 'shower curtain' type system around it, but then Al decided she would rather just have colorful bright bins and boxes to put her things in on the shelf. She chose lime green for the color she wanted to do her new room in. So, that's how it started. Mom found some cute lime green bins at Ross for like $5.99. One is fuzzy and super, super cute!

She also decided to paint. Her bedroom set is extremely old and she has had it since she was little. Rather than get a new bedroom set (she says she likes her bed and won't give it up), we decided she could paint it white to go with the new green accent stuff that I started picking up here and there for her. Thank god we agreed that lime green was not a good choice for walls. So she decided on a dark purple. Purple? I hated the idea. I could just picture it looking like a cave in there all dark and mysterious. But there are certain things I guess as a mom you just have to let your kids do and I figured purple paint would probably be the least of my worries. It did not keep me from dreading the final outcome. So the two longer walls in the room were painted purple and the shorter ones were kept white (she decided all the walls would be overwhelming in purple). I have to give her kudos - her and her girlfriends did and amazing job and mom did not have to life a finger. I actually kind of like it :)

To top it off, I found some other great deals that I could not pass up., so I started picking up more and more stuff. Sheets at Wal-Mart in lime green, $14.00 A striped bedspread with lime green in it at Target. $13.98. A trash can at Ross, $2.99. Little white octagon shelves for the walls at Big Lots, $10 and a candle holder made of glass chips with a daisy on it and lime green leaves, Fry's Marketplace $1.99. But my best find was the lime green rice paper lanterns I found at Big Lots, $5. I did however have to go to 8 stores on that one to find 2 green ones. Heaven knows, you can't stop a mom on a mission, and my mission  was to find those lamps and suprise Al. I found ALL OF IT on sale racks! Each little piece has contributed to a little piece of the pie. Take a look at the before and after pictures. What a difference!

It looks great Al and I am proud of you! You have accomplished a whole new look in there! Now lets just see if you can keep it clean!
Peace out
